In this first module of our series making up “Pediatric Feeding: The Big Picture Day 1”, we focus on getting a good foundation to understand, evaluate, and treat pediatric feeding disorders competently. After outlining the Scope of Practice for Speech-Language Pathologists, Physical Therapists, and Occupational Therapists as pertains to feeding, we learn the timeline for normal development of feeding behaviors and how oral motor skills are related to gross motor skills. Very importantly, we learn how to assess the potential for improvement when working with these children. As a result of this presentation, the participant will be able to:
  • Delineate different areas of responsibility and scope for Speech-Language Pathologists, Physical Therapists, and Occupational Therapists.
  • Discuss normal feeding development milestones and their typical timeline.
  • Identify and compare the relationship between Gross Motor Development and Oral Motor/Feeding Development.
