Orofacial Rest Posture Program – Comprehensive Assessment and Treatment Program.
4 Day, 28 Hour Training Course, IAOM Certification Track Course.

Functional, practical and effective education by clinicians for clinicians to link research with practice.

This 4-day dynamic and hands-on course includes theory, demonstration, case studies and hands-on practice. The goal of this 4-day course is to provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of what OMDs are as well as the knowledge, skill and confidence to appropriately identify, diagnose and successfully treat them. Attendees will leave this course with the knowledge and tools required to put their new skills immediately into action in current practice and/or as a foundation to develop a successful and effective private practice.
Attendees will work through and receive the personalized ORPP framework and resources.

1. Summarize the history of the International Association of Orofacial Myology including, scope of practice, IAOM certification procedures, benefits of memberships, the IAOM’s non profit status and the need for volunteerism.
2. Identify the anatomy and physiology related to orofacial myology.
3. Recognize proper and improper oral resting postures of the lips, tongue and jaw.
4. Select appropriate individualized treatment exercises for patients with an orofacial myofunctional disorders.
5. Explain the link between oral rest posture to speech sound production and swallow patterns observed.
6. Identify etiologies that might interrupt proper orofacial development.
7. Identify noxious habits/digit-sucking.
8. Recognize steps to an effective habit elimination program.
9. Identify medical issues as they relate to OMD evaluation and treatment (airway obstruction, recognizing symptoms associated with disorders of sleep disordered breathing, decreased oral airway and other associated breathing difficulties syndromes, etc)
10. Discuss the functional implications of lingual and labial oral restrictions on oral rest posture.
11. Recognize airway concerns and dysfunctional breathing patterns that may impact oral structures and the resulting dysfunctional patterns.
12. Identify dental/orthodontic fundamentals including occlusion, malocclusion, orthodontic appliances, dentofacial differences and palatal expansion devices.
13. Active participation in case study learning including: history taking, evaluation, measurements, report writing, treatment planning and treatment cueing.
14. Explain the ORPP Treatment Framework and individualize treatment from conception through retention with specific focus on habituation and timing of discharge.
15. Summarize the ORPP Framework for behavioural therapy including the principles of motor learning, neuroplasticity and scaffolding cueing for success.
16. Illustrate the importance of community collaboration – understanding when and why to refer.
17. Define asepsis for the orofacial myologist.
18. Identify ORPP Business Basics including practice management: forms, scheduling, treatment planning, documentation and marketing ideas.

To receive CE Credit, participants must attend the full 28 hours and complete all requirements. No partial credit will be awarded.
